Lianne (Lia) Appleby has worked in the agricultural sector for most of her career. After graduating from the University of Guelph with a B. Sc. (Agr.), she went on to complete an M. Sc. in poultry nutrition, with a thesis on trace mineral deficiencies in broilers. Upon graduation in 2002, she began a career in agricultural communications with Chicken Farmers of Ontario - and joined OIA. She then held communications and marketing positions with Beef Farmers of Ontario and Hybrid Turkeys before moving to Annex Business Media, where she served as Editor of Canadian Poultry magazine and Top Crop Manager (Eastern edition). Lia is pleased to be back with Chicken Farmers of Ontario now, and working as a Field Operations Representative, a role which supports broiler farmers and performs audits and inspections of chicken farms and processing plants. She is a PAACO-certified auditor. Lia is proud of her career path and the professional growth and development it has allowed. She has also worked in the oil industry (specifically pipeline construction), spending significant time at camps in northern Alberta. She is proud to have also held communications positions for two charitable organizations – Habitat for Humanity and the Huntington Society of Canada – both of which are still close to her heart. She has previously served on the OIA board of directors as vice president.
