Ryan Parker – Valco Consultants Inc.

Land Value Update

Ryan is a partner at Valco in London, and he specializes in appraising agricultural and agri-business properties across Southwestern Ontario. Ryan specializes in the livestock and poultry sectors, as well as having a niche in grain elevator, feed mill and gravel pit appraisals. Ryan produces a Land Values Study for Southwestern Ontario annually which highlights and studies the land value market. Ryan has a Commerce degree from the University of Guelph, is an accredited appraiser with the Appraisal Institute of Canada, as well as a Professional Agrologist, a CAFA member and the Chair on the National Board for CAFA. Ryan and his family have a small mixed farm in Middlesex County.

 

 

Derek Burleton – Vice President & Deputy Chief Economist TD Economics

Prospects for the Canadian Economy and Agricultural Sector

Derek is Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist for TD Bank Group. In his role, he leads a team of economists that provides leading analysis on the Canadian and U.S. economies. Each year, he speaks at more than 100 events on economic and financial developments across the U.S. and Canada. As a respected commentator, Derek has been quoted by many media outlets – including the London Financial Times and the Economist. He also is frequently interviewed on the radio and television.

Derek maintains a strong interest in public policy issues, and has written substantive reports on health care sustainability, education and immigration reform. He participates in a number of advisory and steering committees both internal and external to TD Bank Group.

Derek Burleton received his Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University and an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics. Derek has more than 20 years of experience as an economist in the financial industry.

 

John Lanthier – Market Smart Inc.

Inflation, War, Recession and the impact to the Commodity World

John is a graduate of Ridgetown College and grew up working at his family’s agricultural support business. After graduation, John started his first business at 22 years old offering soil testing and fertility recommendations. Later he accepted a position with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food at Agricorp where he served as a District Manager for 5 counties, servicing 10,000 clients for nearly yen years. Following that, John moved to Cargill Limited where he acted as a grain trader, and eventually moved into a position of a grain marketing expert for Ontario and was reporting directly to the vice president of Cargill. Now, approaching 20 years, John owns and operates Market Smart Inc. John currently works with producers from Lake Huron to Barrie to act as a grain marketing advisor, trader and coach. John’s client’s are today’s modern farmers seeking the knowledge of in their field, bringing value to the farm. John very much enjoys the complexity of commodity markets in today’s challenging times and with data moving at the speed of sound. Greg Peterson- The Peterson Farm Brothers

Advocating for Agriculture Online

The Peterson Farm Brothers are three brothers from central Kansas who create social media content to promote agriculture. Their videos have received over 250 million views and they have just over 1 million followers on all of their social platforms put together. The brothers grew up and still work on a family farm near Assaria, KS. All 3 attended Kansas State University. Greg graduated in 2013, majoring in Agricultural Communications and Journalism. Nathan graduated in 2016, majoring in Agriculture Technology Management. Kendal graduated in 2018, majoring in Agribusiness. Due to their online success, the brothers have had many opportunities to promote agriculture around the world. Their goal is still to operate the family farm together but hope to make a positive impact with their social media content.

 

Greg Peterson is a 2013 graduate of Kansas State University where he majored in Agricultural Communications and Journalism and minored in Music Performance. He grew up and still works on his family farm near Assaria, KS. In 2012, Greg founded the “Peterson Farm Brothers” with his siblings. The videos that have resulted have received 250 million views in 10 years and have led to an increased role in agricultural advocacy for Greg. Greg and his brothers have had many opportunities to promote agriculture around the world.
