Take a look at the economic impact of agriculture over the last 5 years and where this positions the north moving into the future!

Dr. Amanda Diochon, Lakehead University

Amanda will break down her research on getting recently cleared land into crop production efficiently.

To be followed by a producer panel discussion moderated by Pierrette Desrochers featuring Jim Rogers, Jean-Guy Seguin & Mikala Parr.

1:30 p.m. Session #3: Sustainability in Agronomy - KSE

Dr. Josh Nasielski, University of Guelph

Josh will discuss his research on cover crops, reduced tillage, oat lodging and more in Northern Ontario.

To be followed by a producer panel discussion moderated by Laura Scott featuring Sean Mackey, Micha Gerber & James Parsons.

Christine O'Reilly, OMAFRA Forage & Grazing Specialist

Christine will discuss the role of forages in carbon sequestration and opportunities to maximize forages in Northern Ontario.

Chris Brown, OMAFRA Field Crops Sustainability Specialist

Chris will talk us through how to efficiently manage manure in a cropping system using the 4R strategy and considering current fertilizer prices.

Crystal, Cole & Darla will lead us through an interactive workshop where they will break down everything from developing your brand to social media to business planning.

1:30 p.m. Session #7: Innovations in Horticulture

Daniel Bath, Vineland Innovation & Research Centre

Daniel will break down the latest project in collaboration with NOFIA, looking at technology options for smaller-scale horticulture producers in Northern Ontario.

To be followed by a producer panel hosted by David Thompson featuring Ben Feagin Jr., Donovan Daniel & Stephane Laveigne.

3:00 p.m. Session #8: Food Systems & Northern Ontario

Kiara Genereaux, Lands First Youth Initiative

Kiara will present on the various Indigenous agricultural initiatives ongoing with Sheshegwaning First Nation on Manitoulin Island.

Genevieve Sartor, Local Food & Farms Co-op & New Grain Kitchen

Genevieve will break down value-chain coordination in Northern Ontario and how she has revolutionized the local food scene on Manitoulin Island.
