Two speakers are scheduled for this evening:
Up First: Leandro Pires Garcia, A.Ag. - A Synopsis of International Sustainability Certification Schemes
Why sustainability matters? Why certify your crop? What options do we currently have? A summary of the demand in North America.
Leandro was born and raised in Brazil. In 2020 he finished his 4-year bachelor's degree in Agronomy in Brazil. His career includes 10 years of work experience with certification in sustainability. Among the crops he has dealt with are soybeans, corn, cotton, rice, sugarcane and non-GMO crops. Currently he is a freelance auditor with three companies from Canada, Brazil and the UK. Since December 2021, he has lived in Canada.
Up Second: Corinna Ward, P.Ag. - Nitrogen Fertilizer Stabilizers
The Canadian government has declared a need for 30% reduction in nitrous oxide emissions, which stabilizers can play a significant part in. Stabilizers have always had a place in agriculture, but now, more than ever, farmers are seeing the importance of protecting their nitrogen inputs.
Corinna Ward is a Dalhousie University graduate with a BSc in Agriculture, a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Chemistry. She has over 10 years experience in the Canadian agricultural industry, working with a few fertilizer companies before coming on board with Timac Agro Canada. Corinna is now the Business Unit Manager for Timac, with a staff of 19 throughout the province. Timac Agro specializes in premium fertilizers as well as biostimulants and stabilizers. In her spare time, she sits on the OIA Provincial and Regional Executive Boards as well as the Niagara Girls Hockey Association.
