Position Title: Agricultural Land Management Survey Coordinator
Term: Flexible; ASAP to October 31, 2019
Location: 125 Toronto, Resources ON, or Road, another Etobicoke, location ON may or be Ryerson negotiated.
Ryerson University, and the University of Windsor’s Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER), seek highly motivated, well organized individual(s) to execute campaign(s) to survey the agricultural land management practices in 6 small headwater catchments in Southern Ontario. Job duties include: 1) conduct farm operator surveys with an existing survey instrument, including recruitment of survey respondents; 2) coordinate, procure, and manage services or information from specialists such as Independent Agronomists, Professional Agrologists, Certified Crop Advisors when these specialists work with the farm operators; 3) coordinate with appropriate laboratories to arrange soil testing; and 4) enter the gathered information into an existing, secured database.
The project has been scoped to be flexible and modular, and possible to do part-time. Candidates may focus on only one watershed, or take the entire project as a full time position. Survey locations are available on request.
o Comfortable communicating with farmers and agricultural professionals in Southern Ontario;
o Experience conducting social research is strongly desired but not necessary;
o Ability to work independently in a team environment;
o Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, attention to detail;
o Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or a comparable office product;
o Experience working with databases (e.g. Access) is desired but not essential;
o Familiarity with farming practices carried out currently and historically in Ontario;
o Applicants must have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
